Westsonic Music is comprised of Grammy award-winning producer Ian Prince, international songwriter/producer Dave Corman, Lions Gate Films founder/lyricist Frank Giustra, and internationally acclaimed songwriter Laurell Barker. Bringing a wealth of experience and expertise into one arena, they form an unstoppable force of creativity and collaboration.
Ian Prince is a British Songwriter, Producer and Keyboardist. Ian studied classical music at the Royal College of Music in London before starting his professional career, signing as a staff songwriter with CBS Songs (later to become EMI Music).
Ian’s early successes with CBS include songs recorded by Al Jarreau (his song was produced by Nile Rodgers), Gladys Knight and Jermaine Jackson. After relocating to the United States, Ian worked in New York with Arthur Baker and David Frank (The System, Christina Aguilera) before settling in Los Angeles.
While in L.A., Ian worked closely with Maurice White, writing and producing songs for R&B legends Earth, Wind and Fire. Ian worked with Rod Temperton, writer of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” classic who introduced him to Quincy Jones. “Back On The Block’ was nominated for 7 Grammy Awards. Ian Prince won a Grammy for his work as an arranger for the Back on the Block jazz classic: “Birdland”. The album went on to achieve No. 1 status on the Top Contemporary Jazz Albums Chart, peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 National Album Chart and was No. 1 on the Top R&B HipHop Albums chart. Ian also wrote songs for the project with singer/songwriter Siedah Garrett, who wrote Michael Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror”.
Shortly after his success on “Back on the Block”, Ian achieved a number one record on Billboards Hot 100 “She Ain’t Worth It’ by Glen Medeiros featuring Bobby Brown which was number one for two weeks selling 500,000 units. Ian followed this with a top 20 record with the group Immature. Their song “Constantly” was written and produced by Ian and peaked at number 16 on the US pop chart.
Ian produced, composed music for two episodes of the hit series Beverley Hills 90210. He has worked with legendary R&B producers L.A. and Babyface, producing artists for their LaFace Records label and has been involved in the production of many multi platinum album. He produced four albums for the Canadian a cappella singing sensations the Nylons. Among the major label artists that have recorded Ian’s songs are: gospel singing group Perri, jazz sax player Boney James, British pop star Errol Brown (of Hot Chocolate), WHAM! singers Pepsi and Shirley, soul singer Phyllis Hyman, and multi Grammy award winning jazz vocal group, The Manhattan Transfer. In addition to Ian’s Grammy winning arrangement for “Birdland”, he won an Ampex Golden Reel Award for his work on R&B singer Karyn White’s debut album “Karyn White”.
As a multifaceted and ambitious individual with an affinity for all aspects of the recording studio, Dave considers himself very fortunate to be able to play so many different roles within the music industry: from guitarist, keyboardist, and film/TV composer to songwriter, producer, and engineer, Dave executes each of his roles with talent and expertise.
His many diverse experiences have shaped him into the versatile and skillful musician he is today. Dave has recorded, performed, and toured with bands such as Nearly Neil, the Solitary Band, Uzume Taiko, The Higgins, Boulevard, and Jessie Farrell. His music has also reached an incredibly wide audience through internationally broadcasted TV shows like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, So You Think You Can Dance, and Millionaire Matchmaker.
Frank Giustra is CEO of the Fiore Group, a private firm managing a broad portfolio of private equity investments and companies, specializing in food and lifestyle, art and entertainment, while having a proven track-record in financing and creating public natural resource companies.
Mr. Giustra’s entrepreneurial success includes founding Lionsgate Entertainment, now one of the world’s largest independent film companies. Mr. Giustra is a major shareholder of Thunderbird Films, a company focused on content and distribution in the television and film sector. In 2014, he founded Fiore Music and Westsonic Music Inc., and actively composes lyrics for songs in all genres.
Mr. Giustra is a strong believer in philanthropy, and devotes much of his time to a variety of causes. He established The Radcliffe Foundation, which supports a wide variety of international and local charities. Since 2005, Mr. Giustra has become an active executive member with the International Crisis Group, a widely recognized independent, non-partisan source of analysis and advice to policymakers on the prevention and resolution of deadly conflict.
In 2007, Mr. Giustra and former President Bill Clinton launched the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership, with the focus of creating social and economic development programs through impact investing, in parts of the world where poverty is widespread. Mr. Giustra sits on a variety of non-profit, private and public boards.
Mr. Giustra is a board member of Lionsgate Entertainment, Endeavour Mining, Petromanas Energy and Thunderbird Films. In addition, he sits on boards of the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership, The Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, International Crisis Group, and Streetohome Foundation.
Winner of POP ALBUM OF THE YEAR (Western Canadian Music Awards) and nominated for two Candian Radio Awards and Pop Artists of theYear (Candian “INDIES”), Laurell’s crowded shelf of accolades include a handful of hit radio singles and winning the BELL Future Star Initiative with her title track “Can’t Stop Falling” (#8 AC , #12 Hot AC Radio), a singles that went on to become one of the most-played Canadian-written songs on radio in 2010. Following up with her knockout hit “Unbreakable” (top #20 AC, top #30 Hot AC) and pushing the boundaries electronically with her recent hit “GiRLS!” (Top #30 Hot AC), Laurell’s Christmas smash “Wrapped Up In You” has become a yearly top #10 hit. Known for her hooky pop penmanship and bright, soaring vocals, Laurell is a favourite indie artist on the Canadian pop radio scene.
Winner of the Billboard Songwriting Competition, a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, and Song of the Year winner at the People’s Choice Gospel Music Awards, Laurell has found herself co-writing with various artists in recent years, breaking top #40 in 2014 new Canadian artist Lexi Strate’s debut single “Chances”.
A profound writer, Laurell’s tunes have been featured on various tv shows including MTV’s “The Real World”, NBC’s “Meet The Wilsons”, Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules”, and Mushcmusic’s “Degrassi” and “Life With Boys”. Laurell recently joined Vancouver-based production team Westsonic Music and is currently working on various projects for artists, film, tv, and advertising.
